For the last few days, I’ve tried making a list of the tasks I want to get through. It started because my youngest didn’t want to forget ideas of games to play for the next day, so the list usually contains a few of the things we want to do together (play with blocks, draw on the whiteboard) and the rest are things that I want to get done around the house (process zucchini, go for a run, do laundry, prep next rug). It’s a nice way to keep a loose idea of all the things we want to do, but I’ve also noticed just how full our days are. It’s rare that I get everything on the list crossed off and there’s usually roll over to the next day.
Our days are full, and they’ll likely get fuller as we move into harvest season. I spend a lot of the late summer and early fall processing food that we can store until the next growing season. I really enjoy it, but it is a lot of work.
In the spirit of keeping life low key during this period, I’m going to take a break from writing here. A pause, if you will, to give me some space to focus on the rest of life but also because I’ve been thinking about starting something new: a zine.
This blog really started as a series of instagram posts, but I got tired of having to limit my word count and didn’t want to be sucked into the social media trap of valuation (did it get more likes than my last post?!?!?). I really enjoy this space for letting my mind untangle the web of thoughts that I often struggle to make sense of without writing them down. So I’m not ready to let go of the blog entirely.
But I’m also thinking about growing and shaking things up, expanding into other creative practices, and tbh I’ve just always wanted to make a zine. I’m not really prepared to say anything else about it right now because it’s still very much in the dough-stage, changing shape and size as I think more about it. I do promise to announce it’s existence here when there’s something to announce.
And I do promise that this won’t be my last post! If you want to keep in touch in the meantime, I’ll still be hanging on Instagram over here and I love chatting with folks. Keeps us all connected <3
good plan:) enjoy the harvest! i'm trying to get a few things pulled in before we leave for our september road trip. hoping the squash will be waiting for me when i return!
