You’ll have to excuse me while I find my feet with these posts. I’m used to writing at 40,000 feet and now I have to land down at sea level to really explore how those high level opinions and views have impact on real life.
In my last post, I wrote about the lack of network among parents in neighbourhoods, lamenting the old school 1980s style of parenting where kids were free to jump from home to home after school and on weekends. I wish my kids could experience this kind of freedom and community - this kind of friendship, but the reality is that we’ve hit road block after road block since the very beginning. After all, the world is very different place than it was 30 years ago.
So how does this play out in our lives? We’ve been living in a rural community for the last three years, during the height of the pandemic, so it’s not hard to understand why finding an open and fluid community has been a challenge for us. There’s a homeschool co-op in a close by city and a few forest school’s for younger kids, but very little for teens unless you’re into hockey or scouts.
