Ah! I could say so much! I’ve been on this same journey for so long. I came across Fleming a while ago. I love his concepts around festival. The way he broke down numbers and how many people would consist of a healthy subsistence economy. He talks about cities a lot and the need for specialization when folks leave the land. He says once you have specialization, you have repetition and the loss of autonomy, or something like that.

Seems like our need for efficiency has created a hamster wheel we are terrified to jump off. And yet we could!

I just watched an hour long ytube of a 12 day Yule tradition in the Tudor time period in England. So, the Christianized state religion is fully incorporated and yet, the rural, agrarian rituals and seasonal rhythms are still intact. It’s a gruelling, physical experience --that of existence! I’m not sure I’m ready or even able to go back to that demanding life!

I'm not convinced that we need to move backwards. I think we have developed technology that, when used correctly, presents us with the opportunity to create something new. Thanks for the Fleming recommendation - I'll check it out!
